Residential Rental Reforms

According to a NSW Government Media Release dated 25 October 2024 there are more than 2.2 million renters across the State who will benefit from legislation passed which will:
  • Ban no grounds evictions;
  • Limit rent increases to one a year;
  • Make it easier to have pets; and
  • Provide fee-free ways to pay rent.
The banning of no grounds evictions will ensure housing security for renters and landlords will only be allowed to end a lease based on clear, straightforward reasons.

Tenants will be able to apply to keep a pet with landlords limited to certain grounds for refusal.

The ban on no grounds evictions and the rules for the keeping of pets will come into effect once the Residential Tenancies Regulation is amended in early 2025. Watch this space!
