The Value of Enduring Powers of Attorney and Appointments of Enduring Guardian

Over the last few months I’ve had to visit a fair few people in hospital. Naturally, I hope these visits don’t become more frequent! But it made me think, as we and our parents get older, there comes a time when we all have to assess whether appropriate arrangements are in place for both our loved ones and each of us in case a serious event occurs that affects one’s ability to look after themselves or their financial affairs. That is why we should all consider preparing one or both of the following:
* Under an Enduring Power of Attorney an attorney is appointed with the authority to deal with your property and financial affairs even if you lose mental capacity.
* An Appointment of Enduring Guardian appoints an enduring guardian to make personal, lifestyle or health decisions on your behalf when you can’t due to loss of mental capacity.
The guardian can decide where you live and what medical treatment and services you receive. Why not give yourself one less thing to worry about?
