When Commercial Negotiations Break Down
It’s a reality of life that things don’t always go according to plan. And so it is with negotiations concerning all types of commercial transactions such as purchasing or leasing a property, selling or buying a business or attempting to resolve a long running business dispute.
Often you are on the verge of closing the deal and then suddenly due to some unexpected circumstance or the unreasonable stance of one of the parties on a single point the negotiations break down and all is lost.
This is a good time to take stock and to ask yourself whether the outcome sought by you really is the best one for you or whether it is time to reassess your situation and find an alternate strategy that delivers an acceptable or even better result.
Many times I’ve had clients say to me that they were glad that did not proceed with a particular deal as they found something more advantageous or they discovered another away to handle their needs.
So remember, human beings are a resilient lot and we have the ability to adapt and bounce back before you know it!
